Serbian Parliament Speaker Vladimir Orlic said on May 11 that the organizers of the rally scheduled for May 12 are “harassing the public” with the sole goal of “seizing power and money,” adding that the same people already held one “purely political gathering” this week.

“They’re pushing for some kind of interim government, fantasizing, picturing themselves as ministers, directors – even if it lasts just a short while, six months, perhaps – so long as they get something no one voted for,” Orlic told Pink TV.

The speaker further stated that Serbian President and Progressives leader Aleksandar Vucic kindly asked the protest organizers’ not to behave in this manner. Their arrogant disregard for this plea, Orlic believes, will be “harshly punished” by the public, “because no one will vote for them.”

“At their Monday [May 8] rally, they voiced threats – that they will seize Vucic and rip his head off,” Orlic claimed of the opposition gathering held in Belgrade under the title ‘Serbia Against Violence.’

The rally’s organizers announced a second protest for May 12 should the demands they believe will prevent overall violence in the society not be met.
