The final report on Serbia’s December 2023 snap elections issued by the OSCE’s Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) “confirms concerns [that] the electoral process [in Serbia] requires tangible improvements and further reforms,” EU spokesman Peter Stano said on Feb. 29.

In a post on the X social network, Stano further stated that any reported irregularities “need to be addressed in a transparent manner, including those related to local elections.”

According to him, the Union welcomes the Serbian authorities’ expressed willingness to cooperate with the ODIHR on implementing the body’s recommendations. There is “no time to lose ahead of future elections in the country,” he concluded.

The ODIHR released its final analysis of Serbia’s snap elections on Feb. 28. The document includes 25 recommendations on how Serbia can improve its electoral process.
