A vice president of the Freedom and Justice Party’s Belgrade chapter, Tijana Serbula, pointed out on July 17 that it’s not normal that the government should set aside EUR150 million to cover the cost of "an air conditioning system for the World Expo 2027” and the National Stadium, leaving maternity wards without air conditioners.
"Mothers from Smederevo, Sabac and Belgrade have contacted us. Where air conditioners exist, most of them are out of order," Serbula said in a written statement. The opposition party’s official argues that the government’s choices reveal the priorities of those in power, adding that healthcare protection of the most vulnerable members of society has been neglected.
"Instead of investing in better care for mothers and babies, money is used for megalomaniac projects that serve as a cover for the interests of privileged individuals," said Serbula.
