The Serbian Parliament on July 23 started a special session with 60 items on its agenda, including a vote on the Declaration on the Protection of National and Political Rights and the Common Future of the Serbian People, proclaimed at the All-Serb Assembly held in Belgrade on June 8.

On July 2, the Declaration was adopted by the Assembly of Republika Srpska (RS), the Serb entity in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The document contains 49 conclusions, opinions and goals, underlining the necessity of national unity.

According to the Declaration, January 9, so far celebrated as Day of RS, will be in the future marked as the Day of Proclamation of RS, while February 15 will be celebrated as the Statehood Day of both, the Republic of Serbia and RS. The document also sets forth that All-Serb Assembly be held every two years to deliberate on the most important national issues.
