The Serbian Commissariat for Refugees and Migration stated on July 26 that due to a reduction in the number of new arrivals it had permanently closed the reception centers in Sid, Dimitrovgrad and Kikinda.
The operation of the asylum centers in Tutin and Banja Koviljaca and of the reception centers in Pirot, Bosilegrad, Sombor, Subotica, and Adasevci will be temporarily suspended from Aug. 1 to Sept. 30, 2024, the Commissariat said.
The asylum centers in Sjenica, Obrenovac, Vranje, and the Belgrade suburb of Krnjaca will continue to work at full capacity, as will the reception centers in Bujanovac, Presevo and Principovac.
The Commissariat said on its website that a total of 429 migrants were currently staying in those centers.
The institution added that it had response plans ready in the event of an increased inflow of migrants and that, with the Serbian government's support, it was able to monitor the migration situation in Serbia on a daily basis and react adequately.
