Potential lithium mining in Serbia, instead of being a question for experts, has become a political issue and is being used to weaken Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, leader of the ruling Social Democratic Party of Serbia Rasim Ljajic said on Aug. 5.

He told Pink TV that experts needed to weigh in on the matter of lithium mining and say what the economic benefits were and what the potential threat to the environment and health.

"If the latter is greater, the whole thing won't happen. Who's crazy enough to do that?," said Ljajic.

He added that after the elections the opposition was also using the lithium issue to weaken President Vucic's position.
