It is necessary to create the widest possible front for defending public interest, Democratic Party head Zoran Lutovac said on Aug. 13, adding that, had such a front existed for the December 2023 elections, today’s political powers pushing for lithium mining would have no say in the matter.

“We cannot allow particular party interests or any other interests to be put at the forefront” or for “people who are unwilling to put their personal and party interests second to the interest of the public” to assume leading roles in the fight against lithium extraction, Lutovac told the Nova daily.

According to him, profound changes to the country are not possible without wide-scale public support, which is why people must not allow the regime to sow dissent via planted instigators who play on the differences among those opposing lithium mining.
