Hungary is determined to continue its participation in NATO's joint activities in the Balkans, including KFOR in Kosovo, the EUFOR Althea mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the NATO Headquarters in Sarajevo.
At the same time, the priority of military cooperation with Serbia includes joint exercises, education, and training, Chief of the General Staff of the Hungarian Defense Forces Lieutenant General Gabor Borondi has said.
General Borondi told the Balkan Security Network website on Aug. 24 that it was important that NATO and the European Union (as well as other international organizations) maintained a constant regional presence because, he said, it would help avoid a security vacuum, and maintain a secure environment.
"For us, peace and stability in the Western Balkans are particularly important. Our goal is to strengthen political efforts by military means to facilitate the Euro-Atlantic integration of the states of the region, which is reflected in the engagement of our forces," the Hungarian army chief of staff said.
At the regional level, Hungary has extremely well-developed military cooperation with Serbia, and, according to the general, the priority areas of bilateral military cooperation are joint exercises, education and training, as well as professional collaboration.
