French President Emmanuel Macron said at a forum on youth and AI in Novi Sad on Aug. 30, the second day of a two-day visit to Serbia, that Serbia had an important role in the global partnership for artificial intelligence.
"The fact that we are talking about artificial intelligence here in Serbia means that it has an important role to play in the global partnership for AI and it chairs a group we established within the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development," Macron said at a venue of InGrid Schneider Electric, one of France's top three investments in Serbia.
After visiting the Matica Srpska Gallery in Novi Sad, Macron said he knew that the ties between France and Serbia ran deep, and that it was a pleasure to see. Before Macron's departure, he and Vucic unveiled a plaque at the Nikola Tesla Airport in Belgrade in honor of the completion of the facility's modernization. In January 2018, France's Vinci Airports was selected in a tender for a 25-year concession to the Nikola Tesla Airport.
During the French president's visit, Macron and Vucic attended the signing of 12 bilateral agreements and contracts, one of which is the purchase of 12 new Rafale warplanes, a French multirole fighter jet, and an assessment of the potential for developing a nuclear program in Serbia. Among the other documents signed were agreements in agriculture, ecology, construction, mining, health care, science and technological development, tourism and telecommunications.
