The United States Ambassador in Belgrade Christopher Hill said on Sept. 11 that the U.S. is genuinely committed to the further success of Serbia – in his words, “a country that is counted on.”
The ambassador further stated that the “issue of Kosovo is very difficult,” yet that Washington believes that the ongoing dialogue is the best and only way to resolve the matter.
“Through the dialogue, the Serbian community need to be given a perspective on what their future will be like,” Hill told the RTS public service during a guest appearance on occasion of the anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attack on the U.S. and a blood donation drive organized in collaboration with the Red Cross of Serbia.
Hill expressed the opinion that one should be optimistic regarding Serbia’s joining and cooperation with the EU, stating that “Serbia’s European outlook is stronger by the day.” The ambassador also stressed that it is important to his country to support EU enlargement and Serbia’s accession to the Union.
