The ambassador of the European Union, Emanuele Giaufret, inspected the construction site of the Kostolac wind park, accompanied by the Serbian minister for mining and energy, Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic, and German Ambassador Anke Konrad.
The total value of the investment in the wind park is EUR145 million, of which the European Union invested 31 million, while 110 million came as a concessional loan of the German KfW bank and 2.2 million from the Serbian energy utility EPS. Giaufret announced that the Kostolac wind park was a step toward making Serbia’s economy greener and that the electricity the plant would produce would be sufficient for around 30,000 households.
“The total capacity of the wind park is 66 megawatts. Translated to ecological terms, that is 174 thousand tons less carbon dioxide, which is an equivalent of 34,000 fewer cars in the streets. Moreover, electricity will be provided to around 30,000 households. This is a concrete step toward decarbonization and making the economy greener,” Giaufret said.
Konrad said that the Kostolac wind park was special because it was publicly owned. Djedovic stated that this project represented a confirmation of Serbia’s commitment to “sources of clean green energy.”
