Commenting on the Democratic Party's announced merger with the Together Party, the Democratic Party's new leader Srdan Milivojevic said that the purpose was to have individuals, citizens' groups and parties of note who share "a vision of Serbia as a normal, orderly European country" to join the Democratic Party as soon as possible.
"We have publicly issued a call for a 'a great gathering' for a large number of free-thinking people and credible fighters against this evil regime to join us in the coming period," Milivojevic told the Dec. 26 issue of the Danas newspaper, adding that "everyone is invited to stand under the flag of freedom."
The "great gathering" that the Democratic Party has called for, he said, was needed now more than ever and added that he was given a mandate at a recent party electoral assembly which was based on a political platform that envisaged the party's massive enlargement through integrative processes. "We will immediately start the realization of our plan to make the party strong, which will stand as an alternative to the inhumanity that has taken hold," Milivojevic said.
Together party co-president Nebojsa Zelenovic told the Danas newspaper that the objective of the Democratic Party's rallying call was to gain 50,000 activists across Serbia as soon as possible, whose task will be to convince citizens to vote for the party's program "which will lead everyone to a normal and free Serbia." "To achieve this it is necessary to get enough courageous, capable people, who are authorities in their professions, to take up politics in the Democratic Party," Zelenovic said.
