Borislav Novakovic, the vice-president of the People’s Movement of Serbia, said on Jan. 3 that the government headed by the Serbian Progressive Party has been permanently destabilized and that the rebellion against the regime is spreading throughout the country – creating a crisis Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic is not handling well.

In fact, Novakovic told the Nova daily, Vucic has been coming across as “awkward and lost.”

“Each presidential address is only making matters worse, because instead of the authorities hearing what the [protesting] university students are telling them, [Vucic] continues to offer things no one asked for. It’s shameful that he is offering young people allegedly low-cost apartments in a country where the law is disregarded, violence occurs at every corner and [where] you’re afraid that – due to corruption – something might come crashing down on your head every time you step outside,” Novakovic said.

Commenting on the possibility of a snap election, which certain media have been mentioning as of late, Novakovic stated that “elections are not the place where criminal responsibility is determined,” which is exactly what “the people in the streets and blockading [state institutions] are demanding.”
