On Jan. 29, Serbian Parliament Speaker Ana Brnabic declared Prime Minister Milos Vucevic’s resignation “an honorable and responsible act,” adding that a democratic solution to the ongoing situation in the country would be snap elections, given that the parliamentary opposition clearly does not have legitimacy.

According to Brnabic, the interim-government solution proposed by part of the opposition as a way out of the current crisis should be dubbed “the teleport government” since it would de facto serve as a “machine for teleporting the opposition into ministerial positions,” which they could never otherwise reach.

Commenting on the blockades university students throughout the country have been staging at their schools since late November, Brnabic said she holds much of the situation against the deans of the universities and schools involved in question because “everyone should keep their publicly given word.”

“All of Serbia has heard the Belgrade University dean tell the Parliamentary committee that the situation isn’t a catastrophe for hundreds of thousands of student families, because there is a plan [behind the protests]. In these eight days, no one has seen that plan. It’s time to stop dividing people and dividing students, and any form of violence should be condemned by all sides,” Brnabic concluded.
