Students are a moral army whose voice must be heard as far as possible in order for Serbia’s advance to the EU to continue, stated the vice-president of the People’s Movement of Serbia, Djordje Stankovic, during a debate at the European Parliament about the situation in the country.

According to the party’s announcement, Stankovic stated during the debate that particular members of the European Parliament (MEPs) had “supported the energy of the students in Serbia.” “Students have been protesting for more than two months now and the messages they are sending have awakened our citizens and reached the entire world, but their demands have not been fulfilled. We want nothing more than a democratic state with free media, where the institutions do their job, as is the case in the EU countries,” Stankovic said.

Speaking about the situation in Kosovo and Metohija, he stated that the Serbs living in that area were “among the most jeopardized peoples in Europe.” “They are exposed to unbelievable terror by the Kosovo authorities, but also, not infrequently, by particular groups headed by the Serbs. Due to a legal vacuum, criminal groups often take control there and that has to be prevented and solved, so that their life can become normal. Since 2012, we have lost the key institutions in Kosovo and Metohija, the military, the police and the judiciary, as well as control over the energy system, which has made the Serb people’s life worse,” Stankovic stated.
