Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said in Budapest, on Feb. 17 that cooperation between Hungary and Serbia was good in all areas and that he believed the two countries would be ale to attract major investors from all continents in the near future.
Speaking at a joint news conference with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, he said he expected travel between Belgrade and Budapest to be possible via high-speed rail as early as 2026, and take two hours and 40 minutes.
"There would be no friendship between our countries had it not been for Premier Orban. He was the one who laid the groundwork," Vucic said.
He went on to say that Orban had the courage to say what many thought, and that, like a true visionary, he could anticipate how things would unfold. "I also want to give credit to Orban not just for judging us well, but for being a loyal friend to [U.S. President] Donald Trump. When everyone was making him out to be a bogeyman to run and hide from, Orban didn't," he went on to say.
The Hungarian prime minister said that "everyone" knew what attempts were made to destabilize Serbia and Hungary and to exert pressure through non-governmental organizations, but that the nations succeeded in achieving significant results depite all difficulties.
Orban went on to say that Hungarians and Serbs faced the same challenges today. The Hungarian PM also said that he was sure the stability of the Balkan region was tied to stability in Serbia, which was stable when it had strong leadership. He added that Serbia and Hungary would set new records in trade, this year.
