The Union of Farmers’ Associations of Banat on June 3 said they would not meet with Agriculture Minister Dragan Glamocic until fulfillment of the agreement, signed with the former prime minister and current parliament speaker, Ana Brnabic, in late November 2023

The agreement, they said, envisaged payment of subsidies of RSD18,000 per hectare and 17,000 dinars for certified seeds, along with tax exempt fuel, regulation of the market of agricultural products and harmonization with prices on the Budapest Stock Exchange, introduction of quotas for imports of powdered milk, and tighter quality control of imported agricultural products.

“These are the basic things farmers need to survive and (Glamocic’s) talk about investments as a solution that would improve the situation in agriculture is needless, while we are fighting to survive and to turn unprofitable production to profitable process,” association president Dragan Kleut said.

He added that pushing for investments would only open the door to corruption, because they were intended for farmers close to the regime. “For more than 12 years, Glamocic has served as agriculture minister and an advisor to Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, and he is the one bearing the greatest responsibility for the current situation in agriculture,” Kleut said.
