Ambassador of Iran to Serbia Mohammad Sadek Fazli stated on March 4 that the new supreme leader, the ayatollah, had not been appointed and that Tehran would no longer negotiate with the United States.

He told RTS that “Iran and the Iranian people are in a state of defense.” Commenting on media claims about Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of the murdered Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, having been appointed new ayatollah and supreme leader of Iran, the ambassador to Serbia said that the appointment of the new supreme leader was a process defined by the Constitution of Iran.

Asked about when the new ayatollah would be appointed, the Iranian ambassador replied that the process would take several days. He reiterated that “Iran’s nuclear activities have never been, nor are they, military in character.” “Iran having some enriched uranium may be an accurate statement, but claiming that we have said that we would use it to make a nuclear bomb – that is a part of the grand lies,” Sadek Fazli stated.

In his words, Iran has warned on several occasions that, if it was attacked, it would respond by striking U.S. bases in the region. “Iran is a country against which aggression has been committed” and “the U.S. must stop their attack,” the ambassador stated, adding that Iranians would no longer negotiate with the Americans.
