Late on May 25, the Beta News Agency celebrated its 32nd anniversary at the opening of BETA's Photograph of the Year exhibition at Europe House, which included an award ceremony for the winners of the regional photography contest and of the media literacy prize, named after one of BETA's founders and its former editor in chief Dragan Janjic.
Beta News Agency director Radomir Diklic thanked everyone in attendance, adding that they "are fighting for the free word" in difficult times. "BETA has entered its 33rd year of transmitting news and I hope, as does everyone at BETA, that this year we will come back to life, and that democracy and freedom will come back to life in this country," Diklic said.
BETA's editor in chief Vojkan Kostic presented the awards and opened the exhibition, which includes 44 jury-picked phtographs out of the 178 which were submitted. The European Union Delegation to Serbia and Viral Media supported this year's contest. The Dragan Janjic Prize in media literacy is awarded by BETA and the Independent Journalists' Association of Serbia.
Among the guests were Dobrica Veselinovic of the Green-Left Front, Aris Movsesijan of the Free Citizens Movement, Zoran Lutovac, former president of the Democratic Party, Milan Antonijevic, commissioner for the protection of equality, journalists, media association representatives and members of the diplomatic corps.
