Michael Young, of Utah, has been nominated as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to the Republic of Serbia, according to an announcement published on the White House website.

The White House has also nominated Peter McCoy, of South Carolina, as US Ambassador to Montenegro, and Ronald Johnson, of Massachusetts, as US Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Michael Young is an expert in international law and diplomacy, he has worked in the State Department, and has served as president of several universities in the US.

According to the announcement, the White House has nominated US ambassadors to some 20 countries.

Each nomination must be confirmed by the US Senate, after which the President signs the commission, officially appointing the individual to the post.

The US ambassador post in Serbia has been vacant since Christopher Hill departed the position in January 2025.

In March 2025, President Donald Trump nominated Mark Brnovich as the next US ambassador to Serbia, but later withdrew his nomination in October. Brnovich passed away in January this year.
