A mere month ahead of Serbia’s parliamentary polls government officials are eagerly promising that Serbia’s growth rates will be the highest in Europe this year – if not actually the highest, then at least not going down due to the coronavirus pandemic, they say. International financial institutions expect the country’s GDP to drop three percent, which is indeed a more optimistic prospect than elsewhere – Germany is expected to lose seven percent, France’s GDP will decline by 7.2 percent, Italy may face a 9.1 percent decline in GDP, Bosnia and Albania can expect a five-percent drop each, while the pandemic may reduce Montenegro and Croatia’s GDPs by nine percent.
