Belgrade Declares Situation of Emergency for Covid-19 on July 3

Belgrade Mayor Zoran Radojicic has said that a situation of emergency was declared in the Serbian capital on July 3 because of the Covid-19 epidemic, adding that the current state of the epidemic did not call for closing the city.

Serbian Minister of Education, Science and Technological Development Mladen Sarcevic said on July 3 that students would be able to stay in student housing. New measures against the coronavirus in Belgrade included announcements that student dormitories would be closed. Consequently, students protested in front of multiple dormitory buildings late on July 2, and later assembled in front of the Serbian parliament.

The epidemiologist Predrag Kon said on July 3 that "the activity of the coronavirus in Belgrade is at its highest point since the outbreak of the epidemic." "The intensity of the virus is greatest in Belgrade. The activity was never this high, which is shown directly by test results in Covid outpatient facilities," Kon told Pink TV.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic announced late on July 2 in an appearance on the Serbian Broadcasting Corporation that no more than 100 people would be able to assemble indoors in Belgrade, and no more than 500 outdoors. He also announced fines if people did not wear face masks in public transport or indoor spaces.
