Nikolai Patrushev, secretary of the Security Council of Russia, is scheduled to speak with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic in Belgrade, on Feb. 28, the Russian website Balkanist.ru has reported.
The subject of the encounter will be information about the recruitment of fighters in the West Balkans to participate in the conflict in Ukraine, the website said. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said earlier that Moscow had knowledge about the recruitment of mercenaries in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Kosovo to be sent to Donbas.
Balkanist reported that Patrushev and Vucic would also consider security cooperation "in conditions of constant challenges to the countries of the region, Europe and the world."
The website also noted that one of the expected topics of the meeting was "speculation by Serbian opposition media outlets" about the following and bugging of Russian opposition members during a stay in Belgrade last year, and subsequent delivery of all knowledge so gained to Russian security services.
