Minister of Labor, Employment, Veterans and Social Affairs Nemanja Starovic said on July 3 that he is not very optimistic regarding the continuation of EU-mediated negotiations between Serbia and Kosovoa after the latest round of talks in Brussels, attended by the two chief negotiators, Serbia’s Petar Petkovic and Besnik Bislimi of Pristina.
Starovic said in an interview with the Serbian Broadcasting Corporation (RTS) that the July 2 talks mediated by of the European Union’s envoy for the Dialogue, Miroslav Lajcak, were difficult and exhausting, as always, having taken seven hours with no results.
According to the Serbian minister, Pristina had refused to discuss even the new European Draft Statute of the Community of Serb Municipalities.
Starovic, who used to work for the Serbian government’s Office for Kosovo and Metohija and later served as a state secretary at the Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that he was not very optimistic regarding the continuation of the negotiation process, adding though, that Belgrade should never be the party stepping away from the negotiating table, lest it should face "drastic" consequences.
