Serbian Interior Minister Ivica Dacic has announced that the red terrorism security alert introduced after a recent attack on the Israeli embassy in Belgrade, was lifted late on July 5.

Dacic said yellow alert was now in force, which was used for a moderate terrorism threat level, his office said in a press release.

He made the decision to lift the red-level alert "in view of the reduced level of security challenges, risk and threats of terrorist acts."

Dacic explained that yellow alert meant that police officers would take heightened precautions and remain vigilant for the purpose of protecting structures vitally important to Serbia -- key infrastructure, shopping centers, cinemas, public buildings and areas of mass congregation.
