Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Djuric said on Nov. 27 that Serbia has high expectations of United State President-elect Donald Trump’s new administration.
“I believe there will be more understanding for Serbia’s position, [more] willingness to hear Serbia’s position out,” Djuric told Happy TV.
The minister went on to say he has reason to believe that relations between the two countries will deepen in the near future, both economically and politically, recalling that U.S. companies are already working on several key infrastructure projects in Serbia.
According to him, “Serbia has had a serious and responsible, non-ideological approach” toward the U.S. with early contacts made by President Aleksandar Vucic and fostered by Belgrade over the last few years offering “a comparative advantage.”
The foreign minister emphasized that Serbia has continued to develop its economy “amidst unbelievable global turbulence.” “We are trying to build a new kind of relationship with our neighbors as well [and] are seeking new friendships, because the ultimate measure of the success of foreign policy also includes living standard, security and the citizens’ quality of life,” Djuric concluded.
Regarding relations with Russia, Djuric said that Serbia continues to cultivate long-standing relationships and friendships, many of which span decades or even centuries. “And we haven’t severed them despite pressures,” the minister said, also underlining Serbia’s support to the principle of Ukraine’s territorial integrity.
Speaking on Euro-integrations, Djuric insisted that Belgrade is committed to completing all essential and structural reforms by Dec. 31, 2026, ensuring that the country is completely ready for EU membership.
