The students in blockade have called on the citizens of Serbia to completely cease all activities on Jan. 24, i.e. participate in a general strike or “general civil disobedience.”
“We do not go to work, we do not go to lectures, we do not perform our daily obligations. We take freedom in our own hands. Your participation makes a difference,” the students in blockade wrote in a post on Instagram. They stated that employees could participate by not going to work on Jan. 24.
“Talk to your colleagues about how to organize a strike at work. What if you are afraid of the employer? Take a day off, call in sick, donate blood,” they wrote in the announcement. The students called on the employers to give their employees that day off, cancel all meetings and inform clients about why they were not working on that day.
In their words, everything must stop and the students’ demands remain: publishing of the complete documentation about the reconstruction of the Novi Sad Railway Station, dropping of criminal charges against the students who were arrested or detained during protests and the termination of the criminal proceedings against them that have been initiated, prosecution of persons responsible for the attack on students and professors and their dismissal if they hold a public office, and the increase of the budget for university education by 20 percent.
