Miroslav Lajcak (BETAPHOTO/MILOS MISKOV)

Serbian Parliament Committee on Defense and Interior Affairs chairman Milovan Drecun said on Jan. 23 that the legacy of EU special envoy for dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina Miroslav Lajcak, who is at the end of his term, should best "be forgotten as soon as possible."

Drecun told Prva TV that Lajcak's legacy, the "so-called" basic agreement on the road to normalizing relations between Belgrade and Pristina, known as the Franco-German agreement, posed "a huge obstacle to reaching any agreement with Pristina" in the coming period.

"I say so-called, because the situation is not completely clear. The West is treating the basic agreement as if it was reached, (Kosovo Premier Albin) Kurti is asking that it be signed by President (of Serbia Aleksandar) Vucic, then prime minister Ana Brnabic sent a letter to the EU informing it that two of the agreement's key points are not acceptable to us," Drecun added.

He said that the biggest point of contention in the agreement was that it treated Kosovo as a state. Asked what Lajcak would leave his successor Peter Sorensen, who will step into office on Feb. 1, Drecun replied that he would be leaving behind many promises, very few actual accomplishments, including the failure to create the Community of Serb Municipalities.
