The Democratic Party’s president Srdjan Milivojevic called on citizens on Aug. 4 to defend the Serbia’s institutions, constitutional and legal order against Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, urging them to take to the streets on Sept. 1, precisely ten months after the collapse of a concrete canopy at the just reconstructed Novi Sad railway station, and gather in front of what he called the headquarters of “progressive mafia organizations” in cities across the country.
“We will not allow Aleksandar Vucic to carry out an assault on Serbia’s constitutional order unhindered and unpunished. I urge citizens to respond with mass protests if there is an attack on people fighting against organized crime and corruption,” Milivojevic told reporters in front of the Government of Serbia.
The Democrat leader added that would not suspect or speculate about the motives of the Office of Organized Crime Prosecutor why it was only now that it decided to be active, arresting former ministers and officials over corruption tied to the construction of the high-speed railway between Novi Sad, Subotica, and Kelebija, adding that he supported the Office in doing their job.
Speaking about the call for protests on Sept. 1, Milivojevic said the police could not possibly protect the offices of the “progressive mafia” in more than 170 cities and municipalities.
“And, just to remind them, we know their hands are not only bloody but also dirty, and that the money trail leads right to Andricev Venac,” Milivojevic said.
