Serbian Interior Minister Ivica Dacic said on Aug. 19 that police were not hiding anything about their actions during protests and that and if anyone had overstepped their authorities they would be called to account.
Dacic said that student Nikolina Sindjelic and five other people participated late on Aug. 14 in an illegal traffic blockade and that she had called for an attack on police and hurled a firework torch at police officers.
He added that police took them into the seat of the government and then to a police station because they would have been exposed to attacks in the street. He said that a firework torch was found on her person and that “no one was tied up, insulted or harassed in any way.”
He added that there were no objections to how police acted and called for the dissemination of only verified information.
Dacic then asked why no one had asked what had happened to 137 injured police over the past several days in a letter from the Belgrade University rectoral collegiate to Zagorka Dolovac.
“We are not hiding anything, but react when there are untruths, and there have been dozens since the holding of the blockader gatherings,” Dacic said.
