Serbia, EU flags (BETAPHOTO/European Council/FRANCOIS LENOIR)
The Freedom and Justice Party said on June 4 that the European Parliament's Committee of Foreign Affairs has adopted a report on Serbia with over 500 very sharp amendments with regard to the regime in Serbia.
According to the party, members of the EP from the majority of caucuses confirmed that Serbia has stopped its road to Europe under Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic's rule, that the regime is using violence against its opponents, threatening the media and journalists, as well as that there are big problems in the areas of rule of law, freedom and democracy. The party said that it is asking the Serbian authorities to conduct all of the reforms that they pledged they would, especially the ODIHR's recommendations for free elections as well as no more "paper" promises without actual application.
"A very sharp and critical document in one of the EU's most important institutions shows that everyone sees Vucic's hoodwinking attempts and lies, that Serbia cannot be independent, nor free, nor stable as well with this kind of link between the mafia and government and that all payments from the EU in the future must be tied to clear progress and the implementation of promises of change," the party said, adding that Europe sees the corruption, violence and crime in the government, as well as that the report that was adopted is bad news for Aleksandar Vucic's regime but not for Serbia's citizens.
