Last week’s referendums for recalling the mayors of the four majority Serb municipalities in Kosovo’s north failed due to a new boycott by Serbs, which the Serb List called for. This expected outcome is both in the interest of Belgrade and Pristina albeit for different reasons. The remaining of the ethnic Albanian mayors will not help ease tensions; to the contrary, it has the potential to further deepen the crisis.
