The German ambassador in Belgrade, Thomas Schieb, stated on March 24 that he hoped Serbia's European integration would be more dynamical this year, stressing the importance of the necessary reforms in the field of the rule of law and of media freedom as the preconditions for democracy.

He said that Serbia was "half way to becoming an EU member" and encouraged the government in Belgrade to continue with the reforms. Schieb stated that it was important to implement the new enlargement methodology, the purpose of which is to make the accession negotiations more efficient, and that he was pleased to know that Serbia had endorsed that methodology.
