The U.S. ambassador to Germany during the tenure of U.S. president Donald Trump, Richard Grenell, referred to the EU and its commissioner Thierry Breton as “enemies of freedom of speech” and also belittled the method in which the Union was attempting to calm the tension between Serbia and Kosovo.
The EU-U.S. forum, organized by the members of the Trump administration from the period when he was president, in Vienna on Aug. 13, was attended by Republika Srpska President Milorad Dodik, who is under sanctions of the U.S. and Great Britain because of separatist policies.
Dodik told the Brussels-based portal Politico that he hoped Trump would win the U.S. presidential election in November. He also said he was pleased with what Grenell said at the gathering. Grenell, Trump’s former special envoy for the Balkans, is belittling the way in which the EU is trying to reduce the tension between Serbia and Kosovo and is criticizing the Europeans’ “love” for the “mutual recognition,” instead of focusing on boosting economic relations.
